State of the knowledge study on age, disability and high volume transport in developing countries

This study sets out how high-volume road and rail transport, in urban areas and along long-distance transport corridors, can disadvantage or exclude women, girls and other marginalised groups, including people with disabilities, older people and young people. It was led by Professor Gina Porter at Durham University in partnership with the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care at University College London and HelpAge International.

The report reviews the available knowledge across these groups and settings, and its recommendations are organised around four themes: data issues, technology, inclusive high-volume transport planning, and intersectionality. It argues that transport planning which treats these groups as an afterthought will continue to build exclusion into major infrastructure.
