Analysing intersecting social inequalities in crisis settings
This rapid review from the Knowledge, Evidence and Learning for Development programme summarises the analytical frameworks and good practice available for analysing intersecting social inequalities in crisis settings. It focuses on how to undertake contextual analysis of the vulnerabilities and needs of people affected by crisis where those needs are shaped by overlapping and compounding forms of disadvantage.
The review considers inequalities arising from discrimination based on gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, sex characteristics, ethnicity and religion, among other identity markers. It sets out the main frameworks in use, appraises their strengths and limitations, and draws out lessons for undertaking this kind of analysis in practice, including an annex overviewing the analytical frameworks discussed.
