Published by UNDP, this paper argues that COVID-19 exposed the unfair and unsustainable model underlying traditional care systems, in which women perform more than three-quarters of unpaid domestic care work worldwide. It makes the case for investing in a sustainable care economy that recognises, reduces and redistributes unpaid care work, setting out investment opportunities and challenges for governments as care needs rise with ageing populations.
