This policy brief argues that just transition strategies have so far paid limited attention to care work, even though caregiving is central to meeting human needs and sustaining the environment. Representing the experiences and demands of people working in domestic and community caregiving, subsistence food provisioning, health care, environmental care and education, it calls for a shift in just transition policy towards a vision in which care work, in all its forms, is properly valued and adequately funded.

Produced by the Just Transition and Care network, a joint initiative involving UNRISD and its Just Transition Research Collaborative, the brief distils practice, advocacy and research into a clear case that just transition policies must recognise care workers and their rights in order to protect both people and the planet.
