Climate and disaster resilient gender programming: a guide for Pacific Women Lead partners

This guidance note supports partners across the Pacific Women Lead portfolio to integrate climate and disaster resilience into their existing gender equality programming. It contextualises DFAT's Good Practice Note on Integrating Climate Change into Development Assistance for Pacific Women Lead, and aligns with the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific, the Outcomes at the Nexus handbook and Australia's international gender equality and disability equity and rights strategies. It is deliberately non-prescriptive, offering simple, low- or no-cost entry points rather than new programs.

The guide sets out five principles: identify climate and disaster risks, impacts and opportunities; analyse differential impacts through a GEDSI lens; align with national and regional resilience efforts; empower women as agents of resilience and adaptation; and monitor risks, resilience outcomes and adaptive capacity. It then offers practical entry points organised by Pacific Women Lead's outcome areas, covering women's leadership and Pacific feminist civil society, women's and adolescent girls' health, women's safety, women's economic empowerment, Pacific ownership and regional effectiveness, and gender mainstreaming.
