Disaster READY action research: learning from accessible and inclusive communication practices in Vanuatu and Timor-Leste
This action research report explores how humanitarian and development actors can strengthen accessible and inclusive communication with people with disabilities in disaster preparedness and climate resilience efforts. Drawing on global good practice and the lived realities of communities in Vanuatu and Timor-Leste, it examines what effective two-way communication looks like and why it is essential to ensure communities can prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and climate change.
Produced through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership's Disaster READY program, the study shares findings and practical lessons to help organisations design communication approaches that reach and meaningfully involve people with disabilities before, during and after disasters.
