Practice-based lessons for feminist, ethical and evidence-based violence against women and girls prevention at scale

This report examines the current evidence and practice on preventing violence against women and girls, and asks what it would take to deliver prevention programming at scale in a way that holds to feminist principles. It recognises that while there is evidence that localised prevention works, evidence of impact remains limited to a handful of interventions and contexts, and mostly at individual or relationship level rather than community or population level.

Drawing on programming and research evidence, the report sets out recommendations for scaling up prevention ethically, covering how scale is defined, who leads it, how quality is maintained as programmes grow, and the risks of scaling faster than the evidence or the local capacity allows. It was written to inform discussions at the November 2023 Wilton Park meeting on rethinking pathways to preventing violence at scale.
