First Nations International Engagement Strategy

DFAT's First Nations International Engagement Strategy sets out how Australia will draw on First Nations peoples' knowledge, culture and connections to strengthen its international engagement, particularly in the Pacific. Grounded in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, it guides DFAT's work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and communities.

The Strategy sets out four key focus areas: deepening Pacific partnerships through First Nations engagement; expanding First Nations trade and investment; elevating First Nations' rights, diplomacy and interests globally; and strengthening DFAT's capability to promote First Nations perspectives internationally.
