Integrating gender into the design, implementation and monitoring of carbon credit projects

This practical guidance supports project developers in integrating gender equity into carbon credit initiatives, moving beyond a do no harm approach to ensure benefits for all genders. It was developed under the Work and Opportunities for Women programme for project developers in the voluntary carbon market.

The guidance is divided into three parts covering guiding principles and core processes, key approaches for strengthening gender equity, and additional resources. It works through gender and social inclusion analysis, participatory indicator setting, gender action plans and monitoring frequency, and provides case studies and links to tools including the Natural Climate Solutions Alliance Buyers' Guide, which helps corporate buyers conduct gender due diligence on carbon credit purchases.
