A guide to building meaningful and successful partnerships between international NGOs and organisations of people with disabilities
This guide from the Inclusive Futures programme sets out what makes partnerships between international non-government organisations (INGOs) and organisations of people with disabilities (OPDs) work in practice. It draws on three peer-to-peer round tables held in September 2022, in which project officers from INGOs and representatives of OPDs discussed their direct experience of what has and has not worked in disability-inclusive development and humanitarian projects.
The guide distils nine areas of agreement from those discussions, covering the values, behaviours and practical arrangements needed on both sides of a partnership. It addresses how partners set expectations, share power and resources, budget for accessibility and reasonable adjustments, and build the longer-term relationships that allow OPDs to lead rather than be consulted late. It is a short, practical reference for programme staff designing or reviewing partnership arrangements.
