Infographic: the importance of social protection across women and girls' lives
This infographic maps the risks women and girls face across the life course, and the social protection measures that respond to them. It runs from early childhood through school age, adolescence and working age to older age, setting out at each stage the specific risks, the outcomes strong social protection can support, and the instruments that deliver them.
It shows how social assistance, social insurance, labour market policies and social care services work together, and how they can be combined with complementary interventions such as awareness raising, social behaviour change communication, skills training, savings and nutrition supplements. It accompanies the STAAR guidance note 'Integrating gender equality and inclusion into social protection systems.'
