This learning brief shares findings from the first of three learning groups convened under the DFAT-funded Water for Women Fund's 2023–24 Learning Agenda, which asked how WASH programs commonly understand climate risk and resilience and how that understanding can better inform intervention design.

It finds that definitions of climate risk and resilience are diverse and still evolving in the WASH sector, that climate risk is commonly understood as the potential for an adverse outcome influenced by climate or a climate change event, and that social and environmental changes can increase or reduce those risks.
