Murad Code: the global code of conduct for gathering and using information about systematic and conflict-related sexual violence
The Murad Code brings together existing minimum standards for the safe and ethical collection and use of information from survivors of systematic and conflict-related sexual violence. It outlines how survivors can be harmed through improper information collection, and provides guidance on mitigating the risks of causing harm.
The code is voluntary and works with existing ethical gathering and use of information standards in relation to systematic and conflict-related sexual violence. It addresses those who document, investigate, report on, research, monitor and otherwise collect or gather such information, and applies to direct, indirect, in-person and remote gathering, and to the subsequent transcription, transfer, storage, use, sharing and publishing of that information. It was developed through an extensive global process that included survivors at every stage.
