Pacific Economic Update: Employ women, empower the Pacific: a strategy for uncertain times
The World Bank's June 2025 Pacific Economic Update forecasts slowing regional growth of 2.6 per cent, down from 5.5 per cent in 2023, and identifies boosting women's workforce participation as one of the highest-impact reforms available to Pacific governments. With around 500,000 working-age Pacific women outside the labour force, it finds closing the gender employment gap could lift regional GDP by an average of 22 per cent, and up to 30 per cent in Fiji.
