Disaster risk reduction for deaf communities (webinar)
In this webinar from the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), part of its 75th anniversary series, a panel of experts shares practical solutions, lived experience and deaf-led approaches to accessible disaster preparedness, humanitarian response and climate resilience. It examines how inaccessible early warning systems, limited information in national sign languages, communication barriers with emergency responders and the exclusion of deaf-led organisations from planning and decision-making place deaf people at greater risk before, during and after crises.
Presenters cover the foundations of disaster risk reduction, innovations in deaf-first early warning systems, lessons from humanitarian responses in Haiti, and approaches to accessible climate resilience and disaster risk communication. The webinar also introduces WFD's strategic work on deaf-inclusive humanitarian action under its disaster risk reduction policy.
