How women's empowerment contributes to climate change and natural resource management outcomes

This rapid evidence review from the Knowledge for Development and Diplomacy helpdesk examines how women's political, social and economic empowerment contributes to action and outcomes on climate change and natural resource management. It considers women's representation in parliaments and governments, access to green employment and financial resources, and leadership in community-led natural resource management.

The review is organised around political empowerment, social empowerment, economic empowerment, outcomes of particular interest, and gender differences in environmental attitudes. It highlights where the evidence linking gender equality to broader environmental outcomes is thin, and identifies the opportunities that come from integrating women's perspectives into climate policies so that those positive outcomes can be harnessed effectively.
